During my time at various companies, I’ve learned diverse skills and gained irreplaceable experiences. However, it’s the people I’ve worked with who have made every role special. Here’s what they have to say about me as their junior, a fellow co-worker, and as their superior. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this portion of the site.

Cengage Learning

Roles: Technical Writer; CS Lead Agent, Trainer & Documentation Specialist

I helped Dasha Martinez begin to learn structured technical writing with DITA first as part of an internal internship at Cengage, and later as an associate technical writer on my team. Always willing to learn and eager to step up, Dasha brought a fresh energy to the team not just as a learning writer, but also as a kind human being who contributed an infectious gen-Z can-do attitude (and terminology) to our team culture. Her willingness to ask questions — not just about the immediate task, but out of genuine curiosity — helped each of us on the team to be better mentors and writers. Dasha embraced our docs as code approach and structured authoring, and made meaningful contributions both to customer facing helps and to process docs and style guidelines. In particular, she helped to simplify student purchase and access information — a key pain point — and spearheaded expanded localization of help information for Canada, a significant market for Cengage.

“Dasha Martinez began her career at Cengage in 2020. It was clear as she emerged from training that she took the job very seriously and devoured knowledge better and faster than all her teammates. Her reviews began as very  successful and she quickly achieved and maintained exceptional status. She became a lead agent very quickly and did a multitude of extra projects for other departments. Anyone hiring Dasha is going to get one of the most devoted associates I’ve ever worked with!”

“I worked with Dasha as a technical writer at Cengage and was consistently impressed by her work ethic and user-focused approach to documentation. She has a knack for understanding complex systems and identifying the information users need to succeed. Dasha is highly motivated and excels at collaboration and learning new technologies. While at Cengage, she approached every project with enthusiasm and often volunteered to take on more work to help others and gain new skills and experience.”

“I worked with Dasha during her nearly five years at Cengage Group. Dasha joined us initially as a temporary agent assisting with front line customer issues and quickly distinguished herself as a capable and dependable agent. Dasha would go on to be a leader to new hires, helping them to acclimate to their new roles and environment. She would regularly provide one on one mentorship sessions with agents providing them with coaching and feedback. She also developed a great many resources for agents in the form of communication templates, guides and walkthroughs. My team and I, as training specialists, would regularly engage with Dasha to better understand the ever shifting needs of our customers and how best to support them. Eventually she began interning with, and eventually promoted into, our Technical Communications team where she went on to write a great deal of customer-facing documentation primarily supporting Higher Ed and K12 students and instructors, among other demographics. The work completed by Dasha continues to be beneficial to Cengage Group for both internal and external users. Dasha’s analytical, technical, and curious mind give her a functional flexibility that any company or unit would benefit from.”

“I worked with Dasha Martinez as one of her mentees during our time at Cengage Learning as customer technical support agents. She is incredibly patient while straight to the point as a lead manager and went above and beyond when anyone asked for assistance. She would always help anyone on any project, whether or not they were part of our department to help bridge gaps between different sectors of our support team. She was the pillar of our support crew and a vital asset to Cengage as a whole.”

Whole Foods

Role: Customer Service Supervisor & Training Specialist

I am pleased to write a recommendation for Dasha Martinez, who I have had the privilege to witness grow while we were both at Whole Foods Market. As a senior employee I witnessed Ms. Martinez start as a part time cashier and seamlessly integrate herself in the team in only a few years. Her outgoing personality and her willingness to learn beyond what may be expected of her makes her an incredible and reliable part of the team. While she began as a part time cashier, she did not limit herself to this singular role. Ms. Martinez was know to be volunteering whenever and wherever possible, completing tasks outside of her assigned role with excitement and an eagerness to learn the inner workings of every department. This display of reliability and clear interest in moving upward had Ms. Martinez quickly being promoted to a Customer Service Specialist. Within this role she handled complex customer situation with grace and patience, such as difficult disputes, complex transactions and theft prevention. But even with added responsibility, she did not stop looking for more aspects of the job where she could assist and learn. I am confident that the skills that Ms. Martinez honed at Whole Foods Market makes her a valuable asset to any team, whether they be customer facing, or not, but I am even more so confident that she is the type of person to wholly dedicate herself not just to her role, but to the mission of the company.
